How to Live Well

Psalm 90:17 [NLT] - And may the Lord our God show us His approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful.

Everyone these days is looking for quick success, it seems. People seem to be searching, and searching, and searching for something that will make them feel significant or useful or happy.

As I read this last verse of Psalm 90, I realized that God gives us the answers, right there in the middle of His Word.

The earth became a pit, rather than a paradise when sin first entered the world in the Garden of Eden. Therefore, we can be certain of the fact that we live on a flawed planet in a flawed universe. Does this mean that every single facet of this world is full of sin?

No, I don't think so. God has chosen to showcase His glory with the "good" things on Earth - breathtaking landscapes, the laughter of children, delicious meals with good friends. He created us to experience His glory with our 5 senses.

My days as a primary teacher were often spent challenging children to experience their worlds through the senses of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.

Now, I see that living well involves putting those elementary concepts into our adult lives.

Sight - Watch  the Lord work in everyday situations. Ask Him to open your spiritual eyes to see what He's doing in and around you.

Sound  - Listen for God's quiet whispers and gentle urgings.

Smell - Breathe in the peaceful aroma of a life centered on Christ.

Taste - Taste and see that the Lord is good. Devour His Word, the Bread of Life, daily.

Touch - Reach out and touch those around you. Be the hands of Jesus.

You see, my entire perspective changed as I read this verse. I think God's approval and successful efforts are both direct results of living a life that is centered on Christ Jesus.

Let's exercise those 5 senses, folks. Let's live the good life.
