We figured the easiest way to do this was for us to stay with them at their house. I'm still amazed at the monstrous amount of gear with which children travel. For me, I throw a few things in a bag, and I'm ready to rock and roll. But for them, you have to pack all of this stuff, in the event that it might possibly be needed. It's overwhelming to even think of all the circumstances which might require extra panties, extra shirts, extra shoes, extra shorts, extra toys, extra stuff, in general.
I love these two with my whole heart. They make me laugh, make me tired, and make me worry. I have kept the kids overnight before, but this was my first try at keeping them for several nights in a row, and my first try in keeping them in their own home.
Today, as I was thinking over my last few days, I understood so much more about the life of young mothers. I understood your concerns, your needs, and your hearts on a deeper level. I understood what you mean when you say you just want to fall into bed at the end of the day. I now get what you mean when you say that you don't feel like you have anything left to give. I understand, today, how easy it is to let God and His Word go by the wayside, not because you set out to exclude Him from your life, but because you're beat. By the time the kids are entertained, the dinner is cooked, the kitchen is cleaned, the baths are complete, the last thing you want to do is pour into His Word. I get that now.
So, these days acted as a training session for me as I work in women's ministry. I have experience in a lot of areas , but motherhood is one of those things of which I have a very limited knowledge. I'm so thankful that the Lord has used this experience to enlighten me about the life that so many women face on a daily basis.
Mamas, you have a hard, hard job. The hardest. You have my utmost respect and admiration. Thank you for the selfless service that you give to your families every single day.
And, just for fun, here are a few peaks into all of our fun adventures. These, quite possibly, are the cutest kiddos in all of the land. :)
We had the best time going to work, playing superheroes, visiting the library, going for walks, swimming, checking on the house construction, flying kites, playing on the playground, waving down the ice cream man, eating pancakes for dinner, reading stories, building blanket forts, watching movies, playing in the tub, singing in the car, bowling for the first time, playing in the tent, jumping on the trampoline, bathing the dog, playing on the computer, looking at pictures, digging in the dirt, ridding a small part of the world of ants, and...............................napping! :)
