I have had the busiest of days. I'm working, which is wonderfully fun. I love my new job in women's ministry. I'll tell ya, there is nothing as sweet as sitting in the smackdab center of God's calling on your life. By His grace, He's allowing me to do that, and I'm so so grateful for it!
In the midst of working, I'm also overseeing the construction of our new home, which is also wonderfully fun. You know everyone says that building a new house is hard on a marriage, but we've loved every minute of it. Okay, not every minute, but 98.76% of the minutes. I can't wait to give you guys a tour when it's all done. They are installing cabinets and trim work this week. So, it won't be long...
And, in the midst of working and homebuilding, I'm keeping watch over my younger sister, Chelsey, while the parents are away on vacation. Let me just say, she's as sweet as plum puddin', but I have a whole new level of respect for those of you who parent teenagers. It's a ride! :)
As I was bathing my day in the Word and prayer, I settled on Jeremiah 15:16 for my personal devotion.
"When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven's Armies." (Jeremiah 15:16, NLT)
Jeremiah really got it. He knew that God's Word is where it's at! Anytime that I read scripture, I really try to think of a real-world illustration. Today, I thought, "This is kind of like when I was consuming massive quantities of carrot juice."
Do y'all remember this? Let me give you a little visual refresher. Look closely.
What did you notice? Yep, go ahead and say it. I'm orange. I had NO idea until I got these pictures back that I had literally turned the tone of my vegetable of choice. I was mortified.
But, who knew this embarassing little side effect of trying to be a health nut would come back to teach me God's truth.
Jeremiah is basically saying (in the Lindsey translation of the Bible :), "Man, when I figured out the delicacy of God's Word, I couldn't get enough. It became my everything, and now I wear that truth proudly."
When I figured out the health of that carrot juice, I juiced my little heart out, and then I bore the sign of my juicing - I turned a lovely sunny shade.
Now, my goal is to devour God's Word, so that I wear His truth. Instead of being orange, I want to be a bearer of His name.
What about you?
