"This is my way."

Last night, I was sitting (snuggled in my Softie) in our upstairs guest room. This is my Bible study spot. I go into the quiet room, turn on some soft instrumental music and just sit.

As I sat in the big chair and exhaled several long breaths, I poured out my heart to God, who loves me so. I've had a very specific prayer request, and I just said, "Okay, God. I need a fresh word from you. I need to hear you clearly on this, and I need to know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, how you're leading." I took another deep breath and closed my eyes.

And, as if the Lord was camped out on my shoulder, I heard, "This is my way. Walk in it."

Ya'll, God might not use burning bushes today like He did in Moses' day, but He's still speaking just as clearly.

The question is, are we listening? Are we getting into quiet spots and petitioning the Lord to speak to us? Are we shutting up long enough to hear?

I'm afraid that too many times have passed me by when I could've avoided a lot of personal failure if only I'd been faithful to get quiet and listen for His direction. Don't make the same mistake that I've made. Listen. And, listen hard.

[Dennis, this post is for you. I was sitting downstairs on the couch, thinking, "I'm not going to blog tonight." And, then I read your facebook comment about posting on my blog. You motivated me to get up and get with it!]

Glad I could help! Hey, I get to work around 4am and after making the coffee I get my computer on and I check to see if you and Whitney have updated. Always a bit sad when there is no update. I know, not a very exciting life!

In Community Bible Study this year we are studying The Divided Kingdom and the minor prophets. We just looked at when Elijah was fleeing from Jezebel and the Lord spoke to him in a gentle whisper. It's been very convicting to me to SIT STILL! Just like you said, we have to shut up sometimes to hear Him. Because if we're too busy doing all of the talking, we might miss His gentle whisper. Thanks, Lindsey!

So very true. I often wonder if we would listen even if God did use a burning bush. It is so against the nature of this world to get quiet and listen. Sometimes the answer has been there all the time, but we are just too loud to hear it. Thanks for sharing and reminding me of this.

Gosh, I think you might be talking specifically to me. I think I am going to copy your spare bedroom idea of making it my bible study/quiet space.

I'm a stranger to you, but I've been reading your blog for a good year now. I also read Whitney's and just saw the news of the brain tumor this morning. Praying like crazy for you. May you & Brian experience incredible peace and grace from God.
