The Best Medicine

Sometimes, for brief moments, Brian and I convince ourselves that we're city people, that we would like to live among the busy hubbub of downtown metropolitan life. But then, we have a weekend like this one, and we are instantly returned to our senses.

For me, the best medicine when I'm tired, stressed, or weary is simply some leisure time at home. I LOVE to travel, to explore new sights and sounds and places, but there is nothing quite like the sweet reprieve of unscheduled moments of hibernation.

Brian and I have decided that our favorite weekends are those with a nice balance of productivity, social activities, and REST!

We've reached a point in our life when we are perfectly content with staying home on a Friday night. In fact, we prefer it most of the time.

This Friday, Brian treated me to dinner. He knows his way around the kitchen, and I LOVE that about him, especially when I'm readjusting to the work world. I know, I know. Those of you who work the whole year through have zero sympathy for those of us who only work 9 months, but it IS hard to get back into the groove. I'm usually unable to do it without a healthy amount of whining.

Anyway, here are a few peeks into our weekend...

This was his food prep tray for fried rice. Isn't it beautiful?

When we eat, the dogs ALWAYS want to eat. So, here's feeding time at the zoo. They don't usually eat inside, but for some reason, I let them this time.
And, the finished fried rice. It is SO good!
On Saturday, we both jumped out of bed with a few tasks on our to-do lists. Gladys and Wally had different agendas in mind...
Please disregard Wally's poor feet. The big guy has hot spots from the severe heat, so his feet are on the mend. If you can believe it, they actually look better than they did! That's a worthless pair of pooches! This is how they spend most hours of most days. Isn't that great?

And, Brian and Vito set out to repair a leak in our courtyard sprinkler system. You know what I love about my husband? He can fix or make anything. And, if he doesn't already know, he figures it out instantly. My brain just doesn't work in that sort of way. Yesterday, he fixed the sprinkler system and a toilet. It's pretty awesome to live with such a talented man!

A great weekend was had by all! Now, we are rested, refreshed, and ready to take on another week. I guess home will always be where my heart is.

Soundes like a wonderful weekend to me! The puppies are so cute. (To me, all dogs are puppies!) I love the drool beside Gladys.

First of all, YUM to Brian's dinner. Can you send some my way, please? Secondly, we totally agree on the being-home-brings-rest-and-peace thing. We're such homebodies, and we love it. Your home is so beautiful, it is no wonder you guys like to be there!
