Our fantasy world came to a crashing halt last night as we pulled into our dark driveway just before midnight. For the past eight short days, Brian and I have been partaking of another world, so unlike the one we live in on a normal basis. We had the wonderful privilege of visiting San Pedro, Belize on the breathtaking Ambergris Caye. This is an island that is only accessible by boat or fearfully small airplane. It was far removed from the world, almost oblivious to the current events that plague us.
We sailed, we snorkeled, we swam, we dined, we dreamed, we rested. It was wonderful! I had never before experienced anything like our time in San Pedro. We enjoyed all of the luxury of a magnificent resort, as well as the unique Belizean culture with which San Pedro abounded.
One night, we dined al fresco on the back side of Ambergris Caye at the Sunset Grill. This is the view from our table. Our favorite activity was sailing on the beautiful Nina.
One of my favorite features of the island was the absence of cars. To get from place to place, we either walked or drove a golf cart. This photo was taken as I rode through the town on the back of a golf cart. All through the streets, people sat at little tables just like these two are doing. This was the cashier table for the stores, which were not air conditioned.
Isn't he handsome?
There is nothing quite like a Carribean sunset to end a perfect day. Unless, of course, you are watching the sunset from the comfort of a sailboat.
More pictures to come tomorrow....
