Beautiful Baldies!

It's happened. The worst has come and gone, and I'm relieved to say that I'm now bald! That's right, I'm relieved. My head got painfully tender on Saturday, and my hair started "letting go" on Saturday night. I took a shower and went to bed, and then when I got up to straighten my hair, the counter was covered with my lovely locks. I went through the day yesterday, losing hair all day, and I finally said, "Brian, I want to shave it tonight. I can't do this. I'd rather just get it over with, rather than slowly mourn it for days." So, we called in the reinforcements to take pictures, and Brian shaved my head last night. It wasn't easy, but I feel like a load has been lifted. And, then Brian let me shave his head. That's right, my wonderfully supportive husband shaved his head for me! It was probably the toughest day since diagnosis day, but now, we're done and we're stronger because of it. So, for the next 16 or so weeks, I'll be singing a new tune - Bald is BEAUTIFUL!
This is me before the infamous cut.
Brian and Lauren (my sister-in-law) tag-teaming it. My face says it all.
Brian is pleased with his progress.
Yikes! I look like a man!
Just a little more off the top.

Lauren was so sweet to massage my sore head.

And, now I look like a Fraggle Rock.

Shorter and shorter...

This is me shaving Brian's head.

Beautiful Baldies!!!

I'm glad you're relieved! I'm so sorry your head was so sore. Your friend is wonderful for massaging it!

I really do think you look very beautiful! If you ever feel self conscious about it all I hope you find some really cute hip hats. Just email me or send me a message and I'll browse etsy to no end!

Beautiful and brave! I'm sure the emotional roller coaster is tough, but it's an encouragement to 'us' out here to see you conquer this! Praying for you.

You are beautiful and it's amazing to see you stay so strong through all of this.

You have a wonderful husband as well! I know mine would do the same for me!

I will continue to follow you through this journey and pray for you and your family! Stay strong!!!

You guys look completely, absolutely adorable together. I'm picturing a photo Christmas card of the two of you, noses pressed together like in your picture to the left of your blog, but with matching bald heads.

I also recently found your blog and have been reading.

I'm sure this is very emotional for you and your family, but you've got lots of friends, family and strangers praying for you.

Very awesome of your hubby to shave his head for you, too. You both look beautiful!

yea you did it! you are beautiful! for the next little bit you might want to make sure you have a lint roller. sounds crazy, but i used one to get all of the tiny hairs as they continued to fall out, once they were ready to "let go". it actually feels really good (like a massage) if you go the direction that your hair grows! i had a guy friend tell me to do the same with duct tape. i tried that too. it worked but then i had squares of "no hair". it looked funny. i would also encourage you to buy a big bottle of aveno lotion (soothing or calming, etc) and rub it on your head daily. with hair coming and going, your head will continue to feel weird...either tender, itchy, etc.

PRAYING FOR YOU!

oh make sure you take lots of photos during all of your hair stages!

I think you still look beautiful and very feminine! :)

And here's something else to make you smile about that last picture: the showerhead (I think that's what it is, anyway) in the background looks like it's planted right on top of your head!

I would say, "You'll look back on this and laugh," but seems to me you already are. Your positive attitude is amazing, keep it up!

I am glad that you are relieved that it is over. I know from reading your previous post you were worried so much about it.

I honestly think you look fabulous. You and your husband both could be the new spokes people for Bald Is Beautiful.

That would be really hard to go through. I can't really imagine. Thanks for opening up the experience for us, even though sharing might be hard.

You really do look cute.

What great shaped heads and features you both have. The buzzed cuts really show the beauty of your face and the handsomeness of your hubby. I appreciate the honesty and openness you're sharing on this journey. It is a real ministry. I'm praying for your healing.

You are truly beautiful, inside and out, as is your hubby. It brought tears to my eyes to see the two of you making this hard situation into something tolerable and even silly. You GO GIRL!

I'm sorry. I should have introduced myself. Dale used to allow me to pass him the basketball before he shot it. I met him at FBC Midland in the summer of '76 we were mere children in college. He later transferred to Hardin-Simmons and we roomed together for a year. We were also at seminary together.

Thanks for sharing your journey with others.

we did this when my mom began losing her hair. Me, my dad my aunt an dmy cousin all shaved our hair when my mom shaved hers (or had hers shaved) It bonded us and you look beautiful and so does your husband. FYI my mom joked that she should sell advertising space in her head since people kept looking at her anyway. You are in my prayers.

Brave girl- I haven't even "met" you and I'm so proud of you and Brian. Blessings on you today... Way to go!

Do you know what makes you so beautiful? It wasn't the hair. It is that gorgeous smile that lights up your eyes and your amazing spirit. Cancer hasn't taken either from you and even though I only know you through reading this blog, I don't think it ever will. May God be with you and your super husband as you go through this.
